Earlier this month, Rey Caquias and his dog, Thiago, took a walk near their home in Puerto Rico. What the happy duo didn’t know at the time was that they would finish the walk as a trio.
But thanks to Thiago, that’s exactly what they did.
Halfway through their walk, Caquias noticed that Thiago seemed distracted by something just off the path. Although Caquias urged him to continue, Thiago seemed to insist on looking better.
“He took a detour through the forest. I started calling him, but he ignored me,” Caquias said. “That’s when I heard a little bark. Then I looked closely and saw a very scared little puppy.”
The pup, believed to have been abandoned there, was skinny and frightened, unlikely to have survived much longer on its own. But thanks to Thiago, help had arrived.
Caquias decided to save the puppy, who first bit him out of fear. But after finding a box to carry him, he managed to bring the little dog safely home.
Here’s a video Caquias took of the heartwarming rescue:
Caquias bathed and fed the pup, then took him to the vet for a checkup.
Throughout the course, the hero of the little dog, Thiago, never left his camp.
In just a few days, the pup that was once on the verge of death was now much stronger and healthier — both inside and out.
“I really like him,” Caquias said.
And clearly, Thiago did it too.
“They get along great!” Caquias said.
In the end, Thiago did more than just save the pup’s life. He changed it for the better, too.
We guess exactly how this little puppy ended up all alone in this place – but there is no doubt that Thiago had discovered him just in time.
“I’m grateful for him,” Caquias said. “Thiago is a very nice dog. I never would have seen the puppy if he hadn’t found it. My reaction was a reaction of joy and a lot of pride.”
